A stock picker, also referred to as an order picker is a machine which is quite like a forklift. It enables the driver to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain objects, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Typically, order pickers are powered by electricity. These machines are mostly used in a warehouse setting. Most often they are utilized for transporting pallets and completing particular tasks in the shelving and stocking department.
The operator of the oder picker sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the machinery forward, backward or steer it from side to side. As soon as the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades can be raised to the required level which makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for example, if the needed materials, are situated on a shelf that the operator could not reach, then whole platform is capable of being raised up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is then lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then directed or driven to its next location. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, however, several companies might have policies and procedures in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker is also able to place pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers could be utilized to finish these specific jobs at some companies instead.
