Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are usually utilized in warehousing applications. These forklifts are important tools in the industry as their extreme maneuverability and small size allow warehouses to use space to maximum storing capacity. They can easily go around aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, whereas standard lift trucks need at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two kinds are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The former require 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, while the latter can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The narrow aisle forklift design features forks which are positioned at right angles to the body of the truck. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This particular design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
To make certain that the forklift is moving in a straight line down the aisle, several very narrow aisle forklifts comprise wire or optical systems. That way, the operator could focus more on the placement and the picking of loads.
These types of lifts are equipped with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on paved, smooth surfaces and concrete floors. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best used within indoor environments. Propane-powered versions are available as well.
