Tower Crane Parts
Several of the most remarkable structures throughout the world are made utilizing cranes. The newer cranes are utilized in order to reach higher heights. Tower cranes provide the means to transport and raise supplies, tools and building parts around a construction site. There are several different components that assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction machines.

Base
The base of a tower crane is typically made from a steel unit. The units' base connects to a custom pad made of concrete. This set-up provides the structure with stability. Generally, the construction must be well engineered and built so as to operate at optimum safety.

Mast
The mast on the tower crane provides the equipment with its overall height. The mast is constructed out of individual steel sections which are connected together. The amount of sections determines the height of the crane. Usually, a tower crane has a design that allows the mast to grow during construction by adding more sections as the building process continues. This way the height of the crane can be specified, ensuring it has sufficient height to safely and efficiently carry out the required work.

Slewing Unit/Top Climber
A slewing unit is situated over the mast. This unit houses the machinery and the motor that enables the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of equipment that allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just underneath the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams inside the top climber enable the slewing unit to be detached from the mast by raising it higher.

Boom
"Boom" is a term that particularly refers to the working arm of a tower crane. The boom is made of steel parts attached together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the bottom which can run the length of the boom. This particular trolley has the hoisting device.
